Earthlands

39 Glasheen Rd., Petersham, MA
(978) 724-3428

Programs in sustainable living and outdoor skills. Beautiful trails, events, and accommodations.

Description:

Earthlands is a remarkable place with a powerful theme – that people can “live in harmony with the Earth and all her life.” It is place open to visitors who just want to stop in to see the off-the-grid lodge, meditate in the yurt or sweat lodge, or walk the many trails that crisscross the 350-acre grounds, part maintained in woodland and part devoted to the organic North Quabbin Farm; to short- or long-term residents who exchange work on the farm or facilities for housing; to students of the nascent University of the Wild alternate degree program; to groups seeking a congenial conference center; and to participants of various ecological and sustainable living programs offered by Earthlands itself.

Earthlands was founded in 1993 by lifelong Petersham native Larry Buell, who also founded its parent organization, the nonprofit Environmental Awareness, Inc., in 1973. Earthlands is supported by memberships, program fees, private donations, and special fund-raising efforts.

Directions:

From Petersham Center go east on East Street 2.3 mi. Turn left on Glasheen Rd, then take first left & follow dirt road to parking lot. Follow walk-in signs.
